Litterär Gestaltning | 28 of may 2008

Litterär Gestaltning is a two year full time education in literary composition, poetry and prose at Göteborgs Universitet. It's located at the Valand school of Fine Arts and is an unique program for writers. There are 12 students every second year, many of them being published and established authors allready. As the second last evening for this season they had their final open reading at Atalante at 28 of may. The evening was arranged by supervisor Lotta Eklund, and as presenters acted Hanna Nordenhök & Mats Kolmisoppi. Observe the full screen button.

Kom och bär mig | Tomas Hulenvik m.fl. | 27 may 2008

 border=

Tomas Hulenvik was the host of a magnificent evening in, let's say, the spirit of Fluxus. It was kind of an examination concert after studies in composition. It was a serie improvisations divided into clear different sections, with decisive rules. The show went on for one hour and a half and included 20 musicians on the stage. Here is a number where Tomas directed four groups of improvisers with his painting. To everybodys amazement it all ended up in Hey Jude!

 border=

We have seen much on Atalante during more than 20 years. However, a concert made of the sounds from live haircutting with a razor was something that definitely happened for the first time!

 border=

In this piece three drummers are playing and three actors reading texts of Bengt Emil Johnson.

Marrakech | A swedish week |10-17 may 2008

 border=

Atalante arranged a swedish culture week in Marrakech betweeen 10-17 of may. We were invited by the chief of the regional department for cultural affairs to make a sattelite program to their dance- and theatrefestival. So together with Talat Samawi we arranged a journey for 27 persons. We made 13 events under 6 days. Concerts, children programs, dance performances, exhibitions and playing on the streets. We will come back with more explicit report, but here are some samples. Midaircondo decided to record some sounds on the famous square Djemaa el Fna. Sitting with their headphones making no audible sounds they anyway became the object for curious spectators.

 border=

We were their because of Jack Brothers. They played twice on Djemaa el Fna and made great success with their repeative and suggestive music, not so different in it's structure to the local music being played on the square.

 border=

Niklas Rydén and Lisen Rylander ended the program with 10 minutes of improvisation on accordion and soprano saxophone.

Dance'n Bass | A mini festival with five duets| 21-22/5 2008

Dancer Anna Westberg and bassplayer Nina de Heney are well known and honoured improvisers in West Sweden. They had the mission from Atalante to arrange a duo festival this spring. And their idea was great. Dance'n Bass. Five bass players and five dancers make five improvised acts in a mini festival. And fantastic it was. A huge happy audience, great and varied performances and a lot of meetings. Hera are some minutes from every act.

 border=

First out was David Zambrano from Amsterdam and Bruxelles together with Magnus Rosén from Göteborg. Rosén is former bass player in the heavy metal band HammerFall, today freelancers working with, for example, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. David Zambrano is born in Venezuela, worked in New York and lives now in Europe. He is one of the leading improvisers and pedagogues in the dance world, touring round the world with his tehcnique Flying Low. Lucky for us he's this week on the GöteborgOpera.

 border=

Siri Jøntvedt is dancer and skilled improviser from Oslo working in many different projects. Tonight made her duo together with bass player Lars Danielsson who lives in København and is touring all the world with his music. We were lucky to catch him between tours and recordings.

 border=

Lotta Melin is dancer, choreographer, performance- and soundartist from Stockholm. Playing her Theremin she made an act together with bass player Johannes Lundgren with his boxes and soundgenerators. Johannes is well reputaded bass player from Göteborg, also a skilled sound recorder with his own studio.

 border=

Johan Forsman is physical actor and dancer from the venue AktÖr in Göteborg. He acted together with bass player Thomas Allin, normally at GöteborgOperan. Thomas played his own piece from 1994, originally written to the opening in Halmstad of a new computer directed fountain. However, the fountain didn't work, and the piece was never played. So tonight it had it's first meeting with an audience, and Johan Forsman had written a text about it all…

 border=

Last out were the curators of the evening, danceartist Anna Westberg and bass player Nina de Heney. Annna has been working a lot at Atalante with different projects. Later this year she can be seen as poet Karin Boye in Karins Krig by choreographer Gunilla Witt. Nina de Heney is well reputaded bass player with a personal sound and national as well as international cooperations. Together with Anna she received the Sten A Olsson reward last year.

David Tanzilli | You Tell Me..? – Flykt | 2/5 2008

 border=

In a new concept Atalante will present mini residences with new artists during the coming years. First out was David Tanzilli with a piece containing two films and one live act. It was one David on a screen, one David on a TV, and one David live. The films were from his apartment, and on stage were, also his apartment, in a light version. The collaboration and relations between these three versions of David were the point of this debute as choreographer.

Peep Performance | A mini festival | 26/4 2008

 border=

On 25 and 26 of april we had a mini festival with three vaguely connected shows in the field of performance. The first had it's base in music and song, the second in the landscape in between set design, burlesque, theatre and show, and the last came from the dance venue but ended up as social sculpture.
First out was Smok, Swedish Modern Opera Art (konst). Anne Pajunen and Lena Frilund made a serie of songs from different ages in a scenic performance with a personal touch.

 border=

Monique Wernham started with costume and design. Today she is more into set design and illustration. But here she continues to develop her scenic performance with a lesson in how to create new life, ”Köp ett nytt (kravmärkt) liv" del2. Think of being able to choose what kind of person you will create, her skin colour, personality, skills and much more. And all is done with environmental care and an echological perspective!

 border=

Atalante have some partners in Aarhus in Denmark. One of them is Christine Fentz who is choreographer and director in Secret Hotel. She now presented the performance Fall, Fall, She Fell, together with performing dancer Tina Andersen, composer Rune Søcthing and set and light designer Adalsteinn Stefansson. They have created a very personal performance about life and death, with a special and close interaction with the audience sitting on the stage. And it, hardly noticable, in the end, becomes a social installation.

Levande Musik | O(ER)HÖRT | Concert | 19/4 2008

 border=

After a new brake it was time for Bob Kellys prize to the composer of the year. Bob Kelly is an important supporter in the art venue of Göteborg. His support and ideas have meant much, for exampel for the birth of contemporary art exhibition hall Röda Sten. He has also established this 10000 kr award for composers, selected by Levande Musik. This year Mansour Hosseini was given the prize. He was given it as a support in his efforts to together with director Svante Aulis-Löwenborg, create a new nordic festival for musictheatre and theatre music, Themus. This will hopefully be a reality during spring 2009. In this clip singer Monica Danielsson and Bob Kelly deliver the prize.
